A Closer Look: Aimee @ My Pink Life.

Today: A Closer Look.
I honestly cannot remember the first time I came across the blog we have featured today. All I know is for “ages” now I have been visiting Aimee @ My Pink Life, and coming away with a huge surge of passion to create.
That`s why I love her and her blog so much.
Aimee was lovely enough to agree to let me “interview” her, and include some of her beautiful pictures. Snapshots of her life, kids, projects and home.
Follow me and let`s get started. 🙂

1. In case someone has never heard of you, Aimee, or your lovely blog: My Pink Life tell us in 5 sentences, the top 5 things that most define who you are:

Number one, I’m a follower of Christ and feel incredibly blessed to have an amazing husband who puts up with my shenanigans and two precious little kiddos who put a smile on my face every day! I love to CREATE and make things beautiful! I try to make our home my family’s sanctuary – a safe place to grow together, play together, and just BE.

2. I know you have two adorable children, Avery and Jack, the thing I wonder most when I visit your beautiful blog and see your lovely home is: HOW DO YOU DO IT? Any tips for us?

Avery is three and Jack is one. How do I do it? Well, I think that it’s important to make time to do the things that you enjoy. Yes, I have two young kids who keep me busy, and I’m a travel agent for a company that lets me work from home, so keeping a balance on everything can be a challenge!

Working on house projects is my stress-reliever, and it’s my “me” time. I love to be creative and be surrounded by things that make me happy! If I weren’t able to do this, I would probably be in a mental institution right now! I’m not even kidding. It keeps me sane!

(Avery- what cutie!)

(Jack- Love the baby blues!)

3. You and your husband, Merle, have been together 11 years. Tell us briefly your “we met and fell in love” story.

Merle and I have been married for almost 11 years. We’ve known each other since we were kids and practically grew up together. We’ve pretty much known that we were meant for each other since we were 16! We are two very different people (he’s a realist and I’m a dreamer), but I couldn’t think of anyone else who I would most want to spend the rest of my life with! Corny, I know!

4. How did you get your start? When and how did you get your creative flair? (Because wherever it came from, we want some of that good stuff! 😉

When I was young I was constantly rearranging furniture in my bedroom and redecorating my walls! Constantly. One day when I was about 12 or 13, while my parents were working, I ripped out the carpet in my bedroom to expose the hardwood floors underneath. I think they were a bit shocked when they came home, but that’s just the sort of stuff I did!

My mom was always encouraging me to use my creative talents (which I got from my parents, by the way). My parents were always working on house projects and my mom was a constant decorator, too.

I haven’t ever been afraid to try new things and I LOVE to learn! I’m also a bit stubborn and when people tell me I can’t do something, my brain goes into overdrive, and I totally want to prove them wrong!

5. I am a cheese-monger, so I have to ask… What kind of cheese do you like?

It’s gotta be Ohio Swiss cheese! It always reminds me of our trips to my mom’s home state. Love it! I’m also really into fresh mozzarella right now. It is divine with tomatoes and basil!

6. You are sort of defined as a lover of all things white (love). So, besides white, what are your favorite colors to design with?

I do love white, but none of the walls in my house are white except my office. I like to have color on the walls and accessorize with white accents (the opposite of what you’re technically supposed to do, but I like to do things my way!). My favorite colors to use right now are probably pale yellow and dark brick red, although it changes a lot.

7. If you aren`t shopping thrift stores— where might we find you?

I’m sort of a homebody, so I’m usually at home painting something (no joke!). Besides thrift stores, I like to shop at Ross or Marshalls, Ikea, or, of course, Target. I don’t really do malls (hate them!). Stores like Lowes, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels always get my creative juices flowing.

My family is very close, so I’m often hanging out with my mom, sister, and sister-in-laws.

8. Favorite guilty pleasure?

Watching Real Housewives of OC. I know, it’s so bad, but it is ADDICTING!

9. You are so inspiring to us. Describe something that inspires you?

Being with people who enjoy the same sort of creative things that I do. I’m also an avid reader of design mags and other people’s blogs. Sometimes I get overloaded with ideas, but I find that that’s when I’m most creative.

Traveling is a huge inspiration to me. The hubs and I don’t get a chance to travel very often, but when we do, we like to go to places where we can soak in the culture and atmosphere. I’m particularly inspired by a trip we took to Europe on our 5-year anniversary. We ate in Parisian cafes, slept in bed and breakfasts in the south of France, drove in a little European car along the Mediterranean coast, and hiked along the mountains of coastal Italy. It was pure BLISS!

10. I know you have a real talent for taking trash and making it stunning! Have a favorite redo ever? A photo?

Favorite redo? That’s hard! It would probably be my entire kitchen. When we first moved into our 1920 house 4 years ago, the kitchen was horribly hideous! I kid you not!

The layout was terrible, the cabinets were old and gross, and the floor had peeling orange linoleum. I worked for my dad’s kitchen business for 7 years and the hubs has also worked there for a long time, so we both were itching to GUT IT! Which we did!

I was preggers at the time with Avery and she was born just as the kitchen was a complete hole with NOTHING in it! We made a temporary little space in another room and somehow we survived. Although, sometimes I’m not sure how. We did all the work ourselves, except the plumbing. I designed it, my uncle built the cabinets, and the hubs did everything from drywalling to laying tile.

It was so rewarding to see a room come together that we worked on all by ourselves! Even though it took many months!

11. How would you describe the style you are most drawn to, in your home and in your closet?

I’m drawn to French-inspired, soft, romantic style. I love antiques, interesting fabrics, layering, and almost anything from Anthropologie.

12. What do you love and hate most, about blogging?

I’m a super-private person, so putting myself out for everyone to see can be really intimidating for me. However, I started blogging because I really enjoyed being inspired by other people’s creativity, and I thought that it would be fun to join the “blogging community”.

Thanks so much for featuring my blog Jenny

And I leave you with more eye candy from My Pink Life. Please don`t forget to stop by and send her some love!

This has been so much fun! Thanks again, Aimee!

What a fun post! And you’re right, her blog is very cool! And she’s from my “neck of the woods.” How cool! 🙂

Her blog is a favorite of mine too! I think our houses could be twins. Uh… as long as you’re only looking at the color of our walls! After that, her house is what mine wants to look like. 🙂 Question. Where does the “exclusive” in your hint come in? This blog was the 1st thing to pop into my mind, but the exclusive part had me second guessing…
